UK’s top five switched-on locations revealed for EV ownership.

New data analysis by automotive experts cap hpi reveals that Reading is the top location for the most privately registered BEVs

The data study excluded fleet registration to better understand the habits of private buyers with Reading identified as the UK’s most popular location for privately registered electric vehicles, with a total of 8,697 for 2024 to date.

Second is the town of Guildford in Surrey, with 8,379 privately registered EVs, and third, Birmingham at 8,067 registrations. Next is London with 7,143, and fifth is Edinburgh with 6,968.

 

In addition to the leading locations for private BEV registrations, cap hpi has also identified the leading private BEV ranges across the UK.

Leading the field is the Nissan Leaf, with 39,421, narrowly ahead of Tesla’s Model 3 range, which currently stands at 39,263 registrations. The Renault Zoe is the third most registered, with 20,784, followed by Tesla Model Y (18,720) and Kia Niro (17,461).

“Although the figures are largely encouraging and drivers now have a choice of more than 100 EV models available, together with a raft of tempting offers, manufacturers continue to show their dedication to driving change but meeting the Government’s environmental targets will require much more support.

“Drivers are increasingly considering a used electric vehicle as their next car. Sales of used electric cars were over 70% higher in the first quarter of 2024 than in the same period last year.”
